Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will arrive in Norway’s capital on October 20 for talks on the war in Ukraine and European security, Reuters reports.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said that the Ukrainian president had asked Norway and Finland, which are co-hosting the event, to organize the meeting. According to him, it will take place as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts at an important time for Ukraine.
"President Zelenskiy has asked Norway and Finland to arrange a meeting as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts, at a critical time for Ukraine," Støre said.
What will be discussed in Oslo
Finnish President Alexander Stubb also confirmed that he would attend the meeting with Zelenskyy and the Norwegian prime minister. According to him, the parties will discuss Russia’s war against Ukraine and the overall security situation in Europe.
"Russia's illegal war of aggression against Ukraine and the overall security situation in Europe," Stubb said, outlining the topics of the upcoming talks.
Following the meeting, Zelenskyy, Stubb and Støre are expected to hold a joint press conference. This was announced by the Norwegian government.
Trump’s envoy may travel to Norway
On the eve of the meeting, Reuters reported that US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, would visit Norway this week for a new round of talks on ending the war in Ukraine.
According to the agency, Zelenskyy and representatives of European countries may join the talks.
However, there has been no official confirmation yet that Witkoff or a US delegation will take part specifically in the October 20 meeting between Zelenskyy and the leaders of Norway and Finland.
