North Korean leader Kim Jong Un held an award ceremony for North Korean soldiers who fought on Russia’s side in the war against Ukraine, reports Reuters.

“The combat activities of overseas operational forces... proved without regret the power of the heroic (North Korean) army. The liberation of Kursk proved the fighting spirit of the heroes,” KCNA quoted Kim Jong Un as saying.

In addition, the North Korean leader laid flowers at a memorial wall dedicated to soldiers who died abroad. A concert was held for troops returning from Russia, followed by a banquet attended by families of the fallen.

Earlier on Thursday, Kim Jong Un met with officers of an overseas army unit and paid tribute to North Korean soldiers who fought on Russia’s side against Ukraine and were killed in the war.

North Korea to aid Russia again

Recently, Reuters reported that Pyongyang may send additional troops to Russia, possibly as early as August 2025.

In return for bolstering Russia’s military, North Korea is receiving satellite launch and missile guidance technologies from Moscow.
