North Korean leader orders military to speed up preparations for war
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has ordered the country's army and defense industry to accelerate preparations for war to counter the actions of the USA, reports Reuters.
According to the DPRK leader, accelerating the pace of preparations for military action is necessary to counter unprecedented "confrontational moves" by the United States.
According to a report by the North Korean state news agency KCNA, Kim gave the relevant order to the military, as well as to the munitions and nuclear weapons industry.
Military activities of the DPRK
It should be noted that North Korea regularly declares its "undisputed status as a nuclear power" and regularly launches ballistic missiles toward the East and Yellow Seas.
Earlier, on December 18, it was reported that the DPRK had allegedly launched a short-range ballistic missile toward the East Sea. A few hours later, Pyongyang conducted a second missile test. Therefore, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida convened a meeting of the National Security Council.
Against the backdrop of a series of missile tests, the United States and South Korea are working on a common nuclear defense strategy that would allow them to create an integrated system to deter North Korea's nuclear weapons by the middle of next year. In particular, they want to finalize a comprehensive instruction on how to jointly deter and respond to the DPRK's nuclear threat by 2024.
On December 23, it was reported that South Korea conducted independent exercises simulating a nuclear attack by the DPRK as part of efforts to hone its ability to respond to the North's military threats.
Back in August, DPRK leader Kim Jong-un called on the country's military leadership to better prepare for war.
