North Korea has threatened the USA and South Korea over planned military exercises. Pyongyang warned about "negative consequences," according to the news agency of North Korea (KCNA).

Minister of Defense of the DPRK No Kwang Chol stated that the planned joint exercises of South Korea and the USA constitute a "serious threat" and may allegedly further aggravate the unstable situation on the Korean Peninsula.

In the DPRK, they also believe that these exercises are a "key factor" in the deterioration of the situation in the region, and that military pressure against the DPRK will allegedly "turn into a boomerang" and lead to less security for Washington and Seoul themselves.

"The armed forces of the DPRK will cope with the war drills of the US and the ROK with a thoroughgoing and resolute counteraction posture and strictly exercise the sovereign right of the DPRK at the level of the right to self-defence in a case of any provocation going beyond the boundary line," the statement says.

The United States and South Korea will hold the annual summer exercises, Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS). They will start on August 18 and last until August 28.

Previously, the United States and its allies conducted record exercises in Australia. 35 thousand military personnel from 19 countries took part in them.

Also, recently China and Russia held military exercises.
