The drone attack on Russia during the night of December 14 was a special operation carried out by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The targets of the drones were in the Moscow and Kaluga regions, according to sources in the security services.

According to the sources, the targets included military facilities, particularly in the Moscow and Kaluga regions.

"After the recent strikes that the Russians carried out against Ukraine, this was a good reminder for them that they won't have peaceful nights either," a spokesperson said.

Nighttime drone attack on Russia

Russia reported nine drones allegedly shot down over the Moscow and Kaluga regions on the night of December 14.

In particular, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin announced the repelling of a drone attack headed towards Moscow. Allegedly, the UAV was downed sjust over 80 kilometers from the Russian capital.

Nearly two hours later, he added that "another attempt by a drone to fly to Moscow was detected and neutralized by air defense forces."

Later, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that a total of nine drones were "shot down or intercepted" over the Moscow and Kaluga regions that night.

Meanwhile, the Russian media outlet Baza claims that the drones attempted to attack several military units in the Moscow region. Supposedly, the likely targets of the drones were units in Alabino and Podolsk.

Another probable target is the Volodarsk oil depot in the Moscow region.
