On the night of December 24, Russian terrorists heavily shelled Kherson. Nine people were injured as a result of the strikes, and there are also casualties, reports the press service of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office.

Investigation launched

"Under the procedural guidance of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation has been initiated in a criminal case regarding the violation of laws and customs of war, combined with intentional homicide," the press service reports.

Casualties and fatalities

As a result of a projectile hitting a residential building, an elderly couple lost their lives. Additionally, firefighters rescued the body of another man from a different structure.

The body of another victim was extricated after an enemy projectile hit a multi-story building.

"At present, it is known that nine residents were injured, including a 15-year-old child," the prosecutor's office writes.

As Alexander Prokudin, the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, previously mentioned, among the injured is a 54-year-old resident of Kherson who sustained a concussion and leg injuries. He declined hospitalization.

During the shelling, the following were damaged:

  • Private and multi-apartment houses;
  • Educational and medical institutions;
  • Critical infrastructure objects;
  • Motor vehicles.

Situation in the Kherson region

After the liberation by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the right bank of the Kherson region remains under constant shelling by occupiers. Russians are targeting the civilian population with heavy weaponry, artillery, and aviation.

According to Prokudin, during the past 24 hours on December 23, the enemy conducted 88 shellings on the region, firing 425 projectiles from mortars, artillery, Grad rocket systems, tanks, ZU-23-2, UAVs, and aviation, including 2 missiles. In Kherson, 71 projectiles landed.

Terrorists aimed at:

  • Residential quarters in populated areas of the region;
  • Medical facilities, an educational institution, and critical infrastructure objects in Kherson.

"Due to Russian aggression, 4 people lost their lives, and 9 others were injured, including 1 child," stated the head of the Regional Military Administration.
