Former heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua is under medical supervision after a road traffic accident in Nigeria. Doctors say his condition is stable, but the crash claimed the lives of two members of his coaching team, according to Matchroom Boxing.

Details of the tragedy and Joshua's condition

The accident occurred in Ogun State, after which the decorated athlete and another passenger were urgently evacuated to a hospital in Lagos. Following medical examinations, Anthony’s condition has been assessed as stable.

His life is not in danger at this time, but he remains hospitalized for further treatment and observation.

The Briton has already been able to contact his family. Promoter Matchroom Boxing confirmed that the boxer sustained injuries, but did not require emergency surgery.

Losses within the boxer's team

The crash proved fatal for two close members of Joshua’s team. Trainers Sina Ghami and Robert Latz, who were seated in the front of the vehicle, were killed at the scene.

Ghami was responsible for Anthony’s physical conditioning and had prepared him for his recent bout against Jake Paul, while Latz served as the fighter’s personal trainer.

''Our deepest condolences and prayers are with the families and friends of all those affected, '' Matchroom Boxing said in a statement.

Oleksandr Usyk's reaction

Reigning undisputed world champion Oleksandr Usyk responded to the tragic news. The Ukrainian boxer expressed his support for his former opponent on social media.

''This is an unbelievable loss. Sina and Latz were two incredible people who were not only part of AJ's team but also friends. My sincere condolences to their families, loved ones, and everyone who knew them. Anthony, wishing you a speedy recovery. Stay strong, champion,'' Usyk wrote on his Instagram.
