In the capital of Czechia, Prague, the Second Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform is taking place today. It involves the participation of nearly 70 parliaments and parliamentary assemblies representing five continents.

During the preparation of the material, sources such as the Crimea Platform website, the press service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, "Radio Svoboda," and statements from the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, were used.

Who is participating in the summit?

The summit will be chaired by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, and the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Czechia, Marketa Pekarova Adamova.

As part of the visit, a series of bilateral meetings with the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is planned. This includes meetings with the President of Czechia, Petr Pavel, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Czechia, Marketa Pekarova Adamova, the President of the Senate of the Parliament of Czechia, Milos Vystrcil, and the leaders of the parliaments of partner countries.

Overall, according to Stefanchuk, delegations from almost 70 legislative bodies from different countries around the world will participate in the summit.

Already the Second Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform

The international Crimea Platform was created in the summer of 2021 at the initiative of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Its goal is to unite and coordinate all national and international efforts for the de-occupation of the Crimea Peninsula.

This year, for the second time, the Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform at the level of parliamentary speakers will take place.

The parliamentary dimension aims to consolidate international efforts to assist Ukraine and support the restoration of sovereignty and territorial integrity, draw attention to the issue of the illegal occupation of Crimea, and find ways to de-occupy the entire territory of Ukraine.

An important aspect is the support for European and Euro-Atlantic integration and the countries' involvement in supporting the "peace formula" proposed by the President of Ukraine.

The peculiarity of this summit

A significant achievement of this year's summit is that delegations from the parliaments of African and Latin American countries will join the event.

In addition, the United States will also participate in the parliamentary summit, even though the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress still needs to elect a speaker. The First Deputy Foreign Minister, Emine Dzhepparova, announced the participation of the United States in the summit.

Last week, the participation of the United States had not yet been confirmed.

Main topics, resolution, and Zelenskyy's speech

The main topics of the Second Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea Platform will be the war in Ukraine, Crimea, and the global security architecture.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to address the summit in a video statement. His speech is scheduled after the summit is opened by the heads of both chambers of the Czech Parliament—the Chamber of Representatives and the Senate—and the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The Speaker of the Chamber of Representatives, Marketa Pekarova Adamova, announced that a resolution condemning Russian aggression against Ukraine and the occupation of Crimea will be adopted during the meeting.
