Netanyahu promises to increase pressure on Hamas after ceasefire proposal

On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanded that Hamas lay down its arms and that its leaders leave Gaza. He also vowed to maintain pressure on the group, reports Reuters.
Netanyahu’s statement came after the militant group agreed to a ceasefire. He said Israel demands that Hamas disarm and that its leaders be allowed to leave Gaza. However, he provided no details on how long Israeli forces would remain in the enclave but reiterated that Hamas’s military and governmental capabilities must be destroyed.
“We will ensure general security in the Gaza Strip and enable the implementation of the Trump plan, the voluntary emigration plan. That is the plan, we do not hide it, we are ready to discuss it at any time,” Netanyahu said.
In response, senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri stated that the Israeli Prime Minister’s comments are a recipe for endless escalation in the region.
Regarding emigration, Trump initially proposed relocating all 2.3 million residents of Gaza to countries like Egypt and Jordan, transforming Gaza into a resort under US ownership. However, no country agreed to accept the population, after which Israel declared that any departure of Palestinians would be voluntary.
It was reported yesterday that Hamas leadership agreed to a renewed ceasefire in Gaza, which has now been restored. The agreement was presented through intermediaries and may involve a transitional phase.
