Navalny's mother shown son's body, pressured for secretive funeral
Yesterday, February 21, the mother of the so-called Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, Lyudmila, was shown her son's body. She was secretly taken to the morgue for this purpose, according to Navalnaya's statement.
She recounted spending nearly a day with investigators and forensic experts at the Investigative Committee building in Salekhard, a Russian city.
"Yesterday evening, they secretly took me to the morgue, where they showed me Alexei's body. Investigators claim to know the cause of death and are ready with all medical and legal documents," Navalnaya added.
According to her, by law, Alexei Navalny's body should have been returned to her immediately, but this has not been done yet. Instead, law enforcement "is blackmailing her and setting conditions on when and how her son should be buried."
"They want it to be done secretly, without any farewell. They want to take me to the outskirts of the cemetery to a fresh grave and say, 'Here lies your son'," she said.
Furthermore, according to Navalnaya, she is being threatened that if she does not agree to a secret burial, "something will happen to her son's body."
Navalny's death
On February 16, the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District reported the death of Russian "opposition figure" Alexei Navalny in a penal colony, where he was serving his sentence.
Russian media reported that Navalny allegedly suffered a thrombosis during a walk.
At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the opposition figure was killed by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, like thousands of others who were oppressed.
