NATO Parliamentary Assembly calls for allowing Ukraine to use Western weapons to strike Russia
The NATO Parliamentary Assembly has called on the governments of Alliance countries to allow Ukraine to strike military targets in Russia with Western weapons, according to the press service of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
"Ukraine must be provided with all that it needs, as quickly as possible and for as long as it takes for it to win," the declaration states.
The document, as noted, was approved by a majority of over 200 legislators from all 32 Alliance countries.
The declaration emphasizes that current efforts towards military aid are "not sufficient for Ukraine to win," and Alliance members must go beyond incremental steps towards a strategy that will provide Ukraine with "all that it needs as quickly as possible and for as long as it takes for it to win."
The document also calls on NATO governments "to support Ukraine in its international right to defend itself by lifting some restrictions on the use weapons provided by NATO Allies to strike legitimate targets in Russia."
Ukraine seeks permission to strike Russian territory
Ukraine calls on its partners to allow strikes with Western weapons on Russian territory.
In particular, Ukraine has appealed to the United States, France, and Britain, which provide Ukraine with long-range missiles that could be used to target occupant forces in Russian territory near the Ukrainian border.
However, the majority of NATO countries do not support strikes with Western weapons on Russia.
Recently, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg urged allied countries supplying weapons to Ukraine to lift the ban on their use for targeting military targets in Russian territory.
