Namibia's President Hage Gottfried Geingob passed away on Sunday, February 4. The leader was 82 years old, informs the President's Facebook page.

Namibia's leader, Hage Gottfried Geingob, passed away in a hospital surrounded by his family.

"The President of the Republic of Namibia has passed on today, Sunday 4 February 2024 at around 00h04 at Lady Pohamba Hospital where he was receiving medical treatment. The Namibian nation has lost a distinguished servant of the people, a liberation struggle icon, the chief architect of our constitution and the pillar of the Namibian house." the statement says.

In January, the president's office announced that Hage Geingob had been diagnosed with cancer. In the last weeks, he fought against the illness.

Geingob became Namibia's president in 2015 and was re-elected for a second term in 2019. He served as the country's first prime minister from 1990 to 2002.

It is noted that Vice President Nangolo Mbumba will temporarily assume the duties of Namibia's president.

In recent news, RBC-Ukraine reported the passing of former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. He was 100 years old at the time of his death.
