Musk unveils Grok 3 chatbot, called smartest AI worldwide

On Tuesday, Elon Musk's xAI unveiled Grok-3, claiming that its computing power is 10 times higher than its predecessor. According to the company, the new AI outperforms OpenAI GPT-4o, Google Gemini, and DeepSeek V3 in tests, and has advanced reasoning abilities, reports The Verge.
Details of the new update
So-called "reasoning models" are trained to answer complex questions by breaking them down into smaller tasks and checking themselves for accuracy before giving an answer. This allows them to provide more accurate and reasonable results.
Similar technologies are also being developed by xAI competitors, including OpenAI o1, DeepSeek R1, and Google Gemini Flash Thinking.
Grok-3 offers two modes of operation: "Think", which demonstrates the AI's reasoning process while solving problems, and "Big Brain", which is designed to perform complex tasks requiring high computing power.
In addition, xAI is launching a new search product, Grok AI, called Deep Search, which the company describes as a "next-generation search engine."
Musk claims that Grok-3 is "an AI that strives for the truth as much as possible, even if it contradicts political correctness." However, previous versions of xAI's chatbot were criticized for spreading election-related disinformation and for not having strict restrictions on image generation, which allowed for the creation of questionable content.
OpenAI is also developing mechanisms that allow models to "seek the truth" when dealing with controversial topics, but at the same time seeks to maintain a certain security framework.
Grok-3 was made available to X Premium Plus subscribers, which now starts at $40 per month. This is the second price increase in two months - in December, the subscription went up from $16 to $22.
xAI is also launching a new SuperGrok plan, which will offer "the most advanced features and early access to new features." SuperGrok will reportedly cost $30 per month, but it is not yet clear whether this amount will be added to the X subscription or charged separately.
Musk also said that Grok will soon receive a synthesized voice feature similar to OpenAI's Advanced Voice Mode for ChatGPT. In addition, xAI plans to open source Grok-2 in the coming months.
