Moscow signals new wave of strikes on Ukraine's energy system

Russia says it is preparing massive strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, calling them a response to attacks on Russia’s fuel and energy sector, according to Russia’s Ministry of Defense.
The Russian ministry claims that the Russian Armed Forces have already received orders and begun preparations for the attacks.
Russia’s Defense Ministry attributed the planned strikes to what it called Ukrainian attacks on civilian infrastructure and Russia’s fuel and energy sector.
“Following the orders received, the Russian Armed Forces have begun preparations to launch massive strikes against Ukraine’s energy facilities,” the Russian ministry said.
At the same time, Russia’s Defense Ministry blamed Ukraine for the potential escalation, claiming the strikes would be a response to attacks on Russian territory.
Ukraine is already preparing its energy system for the upcoming heating season by strengthening protection around critical facilities and stockpiling equipment for the regions.
Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal said new shelters and engineering structures are being built to protect energy facilities. In some cases, damaged facilities can now be restored in about a week.
