Moldovan president to visit Kyiv for Zelenskyy's birthday
Moldovan President Maia Sandu is traveling to Kyiv on Saturday, January 25. She noted on Facebook that she is visiting Ukraine at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu posted a video from a train, announcing that she is heading to Kyiv at the invitation of President Zelenskyy. The video was shared on the morning of January 25, on the birthday of the Ukrainian president.
Sandu noted that her visit is intended to demonstrate Moldova's support for Ukraine.
"For almost three years, Ukrainians have been defending their country, their families, and the future of their children. The courage of Ukrainians is also defending peace in the Republic of Moldova, for which we are very grateful," she said.
According to Sandu, during her visit, she will meet with Zelenskyy and other officials in Kyiv to discuss issues of security, energy, trade, roads, bridges, and cooperation on EU accession.
Crisis in Transnistria
It is important to note that since January 1, Ukraine has suspended the transit of Russian gas to Europe and Moldova. This has had a severe impact on the unrecognized, Russian-occupied Transnistria, which relies on Russian gas.
Gas from Russia in Transnistria was also used to generate electricity at the Moldova GRES, which supplied power to Chișinău.
Earlier, President Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine is ready to help Moldova resolve the energy crisis in Transnistria.
As reported, Moscow plans to purchase gas from Europe to assist Transnistria.
