The US embassy complex in the Iraqi capital is one of the largest US diplomatic facilities in the world. It has previously been repeatedly targeted by rocket strikes and drone attacks, which, according to authorities, are carried out by Iran-linked paramilitary groups.
The US Embassy in Baghdad has not yet commented on the incident.
The day before, on Friday, the diplomatic mission updated its security warning for Iraq to level four. The statement noted that Iran and affiliated militias have previously attacked US citizens, their interests, and infrastructure, and may continue such actions.
Attacks on US diplomatic missions
US embassies in the Middle East have been targeted by Iran.
As is known, Iraq has also become a battleground in the US and Israel's war with Iran. Tehran is striking US military bases and damaging other American-affiliated facilities.
It was also reported that Washington recently evacuated its diplomats from the US Embassy in Kuwait, which has also become embroiled in the war with Iran by opposing Tehran.
