The Gulf of Mexico will remain the Gulf of Mexico for Mexico and the world, regardless of US President Donald Trump's executive order, stated Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, according to ABC News.

Sheinbaum responded to several executive orders signed by Trump after his inauguration.

The President emphasized that Trump’s orders concerning the emergency situation at the southern border and protocols for migrant protection are no different from the measures enacted during Trump’s first term.

“We will always act in the defence of our independence, the defense of our fellow nationals living in the US. We act within the framework of our constitution and laws. We always act with a cool head," she said.

Sheinbaum also rejected Trump’s executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the American Gulf.

“For us and the whole world, it is still the Gulf of Mexico,” the President declared.

Trump’s executive orders

On January 20, Donald Trump was inaugurated for his second term. Following the ceremony, he signed several executive orders, many of which pertain to migrants.

One of the orders included renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the American Gulf. Trump justified his decision by stating that the Gulf of Mexico is the largest in the world and plays a crucial role in the American economy.
