Andrii Matiukha donated Thompson retractor system to Kyiv Okhmatdyt hospital

Emergency Surgery Unit of Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital received a cutting-edge Thompson retractor system, already in use in leading global clinics. The full system purchase was funded by the Andrii Matiukha Foundation and the Good Donations charity.
Thompson is one of the most effective surgical systems available. It is used for complex procedures and offers several advantages:
- optimal visibility of the surgical area;
- hands-free operation for surgeons;
- reduced anesthesia time for children;
- minimized pressure on tissues;
- less physical strain on surgical teams.
The system costs UAH 2,221,000 (USD 53,421). However, its value is immeasurable - it helps save lives every day.
“We didn’t consider partial support. Providing the hospital with the full system was the obvious choice,” said Andrii Matiukha.
The foundation focuses on supporting hospitals, providing medical equipment, and developing the healthcare system. Okhmatdyt had previously received a basic retractor set from Good Donations. Now, thanks to the partnership, it has a full system built to last for years.
Over 300 emergency surgeries are performed annually at the department. The new equipment will make these procedures even more precise and safer for patients.
“This is a big step forward for our entire team. We are grateful for such support,” the hospital noted.
