Massive air assault on Ukraine: Energy infrastructure damaged, fatality and casualties reported
During the night of September 26, the Russian invaders once again attacked Ukraine with Shahed drones, guided bombs (KABs), and missiles: Kyiv, Odesa region, Zaporizhzhia, Ivano-Frankivsk were targeted, and energy infrastructure was damaged. There are casualties and one fatality.
RBC-Ukraine has gathered all the known information about the overnight shelling of Ukraine.
Explosions and sir defense activity in several regions
Around midnight, air raid alerts were declared in several regions of Ukraine. The Air Force warned of the threat from Shahed drones, which were constantly changing their course.
By around 2:00 AM, the alert for drones was issued in Kyiv. A few minutes later, explosions were heard in Kyiv, and air defense systems were active.
Later, explosions were also heard in Ivano-Frankivsk, where air defense was also engaged. By around 6:00 AM, another series of explosions occurred in Kyiv as air defense continued to repel the Russian attack.
Additionally, throughout the night, media reported explosions in the Khmelnytskyi region, particularly mentioning the movement of Shahed drones near Starokostiantyniv.
Attack on Kyiv: No casualties, but there is damage
Russia targeted more than 15 enemy drones at Kyiv. Air defense systems worked for five hours to intercept them on the outskirts of the capital.
"Approximately ten Russian attack drones were neutralized by the air defense forces and systems," reported Serhiy Popko, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA).
As for the aftermath, debris caused the depressurization of a gas pipe in a residential building in the Pechersk district. About 20 cars were also damaged, and debris fell on the territory of a kindergarten.

Initially, it was reported that a child had been injured, but later, this information was not confirmed.
The Odesa region: Missile and drone attacks, one fatality
The Odesa region was attacked twice—both by missiles and drones.
"As a result of a missile attack in the Odesa district, a 62-year-old woman was killed," reported Oleh Kiper, the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration (OVA).
Buildings and cars were damaged by the missile strike, and a fire started in dry grass, which firefighters promptly extinguished.
During the drone attack in the early morning hours, fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries, and no significant infrastructure damage was recorded.
Energy infrastructure damage: Ivano-Frankivsk city center without power, outages in the Mykolaiv region
Due to the drone attacks overnight, energy infrastructure in Ivano-Frankivsk and Mykolaiv regions was damaged.
According to "Prykarpattiaoblenergo," the center of Ivano-Frankivsk was partially without power, specifically the streets of Nezalezhnosti, Konovalets, Sichovykh Striltsiv, Stepan Bandera, and some adjacent areas. According to OVA head Svitlana Onyshchuk, the occupiers damaged a critical infrastructure object, and a fire broke out, but it has already been extinguished.
In the Mykolaiv region, the invaders also attacked an energy infrastructure object, leading to power outages.
"Most of the affected areas have already been reconnected to the power grid, and work continues. There are no casualties," said Vitalii Kim, the head of the Mykolaiv OVA.
Shelling of Zaporizhzhia: Casualties include a teenager
After 6:00 AM, Russian forces also attacked Zaporizhzhia. Residential buildings and an industrial facility were hit. The Russians struck the city with KABs (guided aerial bombs).
Preliminary reports indicated seven people were injured. Later, the number of wounded rose to eight.

Air defense response
During the night of September 26, Russia launched 78 kamikaze drones and six missiles at Ukraine. Two missiles attacked the Sumy region from the Belgorod region, while four Kh-59/69 missiles from the Black Sea were aimed at the Odesa region. Air defense operated in 14 regions.
The drones were, as usual, launched from Primorsko-Akhtarsk and Kursk. Unusually, Shahed drones also came from Russia’s Orel region.
"Four guided aerial missiles Kh-59/69 and 66 attack drones were shot down. Eight enemy drones were lost in several regions of Ukraine. One drone returned to Russia, while another remains in Ukraine's airspace, and combat operations are ongoing," the Air Force reported.
