Magnetic storms: Will they hit this weekend?

Magnetic storms can impact human well-being, causing discomfort and mood swings. Strong storms may also disrupt communication systems and electronic devices.
Scientists have provided a forecast for magnetic storms expected this weekend, February 15-16, as reported by RBC-Ukraine.
Why do magnetic storms occur?
Magnetic storms are triggered by solar flares, which release streams of charged particles into space. These particles interact with Earth's magnetosphere, causing geomagnetic disturbances.
How do magnetic storms affect humans?
Scientists conduct numerous studies each year to examine the impact of magnetic storms on human health. Some studies confirm a correlation, showing that more people seek medical attention on days of heightened geomagnetic activity, reporting various health issues.
Magnetic storms can influence the body's bioelectrical processes, leading to sleep disturbances, reduced concentration, increased anxiety, irritability, and fatigue.
Common symptoms:
- Headaches
- Migraines
- Mental fog
- Nausea
- Reduced focus and productivity
- Fatigue
- Daytime drowsiness, weakness
- Increased aggression, irritability, anxiety
- Mood swings
- Apathy, depressive states
- Muscle pain
- Cardiovascular issues
Magnetic storm forecast
According to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the forecast for February 15-17, 2025, is as follows:
February 15: A red-level magnetic storm (K-index 5) is expected, potentially affecting well-being. It may intensify in the evening to a G2 geomagnetic storm (K-index 6).
February 16: The storm will weaken, with moderate geomagnetic activity (K-index 4). Weather-sensitive individuals may experience discomfort.
February 17: A moderate magnetic storm (K-index 4) is forecasted, which could cause mild discomfort worldwide.
It is important to note that all forecasts are preliminary, as solar activity is highly dynamic and geomagnetic conditions can change multiple times a day. Regular updates are recommended.
How to minimize the impact of magnetic storms
Get enough sleep. Maintain a consistent sleep schedule and aim for 7-9 hours of rest.
Take breaks. Avoid physical and emotional overexertion.
Stay hydrated. Drink enough water to maintain your body's fluid balance.
Manage stress. Practice relaxation techniques like meditation or deep breathing.
Eat healthily. Consume fresh fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins and minerals.
Get fresh air. Spend at least 30-45 minutes outdoors daily and ventilate your living space.
Doctors also advise limiting caffeine, energy drinks, alcohol, and unhealthy foods during periods of heightened geomagnetic activity.
