The Earth is again covered by a series of magnetic storms. According to scientists, in the coming days, geomagnetic activity is expected, which may cause a deterioration in well-being for some people. The greatest impact is expected on July 7.

When strong magnetic storms are expected and how to protect yourself from their effects, RBC-Ukraine reports.

Specialists forecast

According to space observatories, from July 5 to 7, the Earth will be affected by a level G1 magnetic storm, and on July 7, a short-term strengthening to level G2 is possible.

This is related to increased solar activity, particularly with coronal mass ejections, which will reach the Earth’s magnetosphere during this period.

July 5–6 – moderate magnetic storm with an increase to level G1
July 7 – increased geomagnetic activity, level G2

What's a magnetic storm

Magnetic storms arise due to the interaction of charged particles from the Sun with the Earth's magnetic field. These disturbances can affect not only the operation of equipment but also human health.

Especially sensitive to such changes are weather-dependent people, pregnant women, the elderly, children, and individuals with chronic illnesses.

How magnetic storms affect health

On days of magnetic activity, the following symptoms are possible:

  • headache

  • feeling of pressure in the head

  • dizziness

  • nausea

  • fatigue

  • drowsiness or insomnia

  • increased irritability

  • depressive states

  • apathy

  • anxiety

  • blood pressure fluctuations

  • exacerbation of chronic diseases

All this is related to changes in the bioelectrical activity of the brain and nervous system. Several studies have confirmed the detrimental effects of storms on health, and a connection between geomagnetic activity and well-being has been documented in many countries.

How to reduce the storm’s impact on well-being

It is impossible to completely avoid the impact of a magnetic storm, but the following simple recommendations will help you feel better:

  • Stick to a routine. Go to bed and wake up at the same time, sleep at least 7–8 hours.

  • Drink more water. Dehydration worsens headaches and fatigue.

  • Avoid stress. Don’t overload yourself with tasks, avoid conflicts.

  • Eat lightly. More vegetables, fruits, minimal heavy food, coffee, and alcohol.

  • Reduce screen time. Especially in the evening.

  • Spend time in the fresh air. Even a short walk reduces anxiety.

When to see a doctor

If you have chronic diseases or symptoms do not go away for several days, do not self-medicate. Clarify the dosage of prescribed medications and consult a specialist. On days of magnetic storms, the load on the cardiovascular system may be increased.
