Macron says Iran’s nuclear program nearing point of no return
Iran continues to develop its nuclear program. It is approaching the point of no return, reports Bloomberg, citing French President Emmanuel Macron.
"The acceleration of Iran’s nuclear program is leading us very close to the breaking point," said the French president.
He clarified that the Iranian issue is one of the key topics for France in its renewed dialogue with the new US administration under Donald Trump.
Macron also commented on Iran's support for Russia in the war against Ukraine, calling Tehran one of the biggest strategic challenges and a threat to the security of Europe and its allies.
According to Bloomberg, Iran already possesses enough materials to produce several nuclear warheads, should the country make the political decision to do so.
Last month, Tehran announced plans to increase its nuclear fuel production capacity. This move was in response to allegations from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The IAEA raised concerns about Iran's failure to resolve issues with uranium particles found at undeclared sites.
Iran insists that its nuclear development program is intended for energy purposes.
US discusses strikes on Iran
Earlier, Axios reported that US President Joe Biden is discussing with his team the possibility of striking Iran's nuclear targets.
The publication clarified that such an option could be pursued if Iran takes steps toward developing nuclear weapons by January 20.
