Macron's impeachment initiated by far-left in France: Reasons behind it
The far-left party “France Unconquered” initiates impeachment proceedings against President Emmanuel Macron. This decision was made due to the appointment of a new prime minister, states the party's head Mathilde Panot.
The parliamentary faction of the France Unconquered party decided to initiate impeachment over Macron's refusal to appoint Lucie Castets, a candidate from the left-wing bloc, as prime minister.
The far left accused Macron of allegedly abusing his power.
“The resolution to initiate impeachment proceedings against the President of the Republic, in accordance with Article 68 of the Constitution, was sent to deputies today for signature. Macron refuses to obey the popular vote, so we must remove him,” Panot wrote.
Macron has decided on the prime minister
At the same time, the French newspaper Le Figaro reports that French President Emmanuel Macron has probably decided on the candidate for the new head of government.
For several days now, the network has been reporting that Bernard Cazeneuve could become the new prime minister. According to Le Figaro, on Monday, September 2, Macron will meet with Cazeneuve at the Elysee Palace.
Bernard Cazeneuve is a former member of the Socialist Party, and in June he declared himself an opposition to the new united leftist alliance. From December 2016 to May 2017, Kaznev already served as prime minister under President Francois Hollande.
Background
On June 30 and July 7, two rounds of early parliamentary elections were held in France after the National Assembly was dissolved by Emmanuel Macron's decision.
A month and a half after the election and the resignation of Gabriel Attal's government, Macron has not appointed a new prime minister. The far left is demanding the appointment of their candidate, Lucie Castets.
