Macron discusses his call to Putin with Merz

French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz held a conversation. They discussed Macron’s recent phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, stated German government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius, according to ntv.
According to Kornelius, one of the main topics of Macron’s call with Putin was Iran’s nuclear program.

He added that he would not comment further on this initiative.
The German government representative also noted that Chancellor Merz does not plan to speak with the Kremlin leader in the near future.
Call between Macron and Putin
On July 1, French President Emmanuel Macron held a phone call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Macron said he urged the Kremlin leader to agree to a ceasefire with Ukraine and to begin negotiations aimed at achieving a lasting and just peace.
Putin, in turn, blamed the West during the conversation, claiming its policies led to Russia’s war against Ukraine.
