Macron demanded Putin agree to ceasefire proposed by Trump

The president of France, Emmanuel Macron, stated that the Kremlin leader, Vladimir Putin, will have to show today that he wants peace, according to a post by the French leader on the social media platform X.
He said that on the evening of May 18, he spoke with US President Donald Trump, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after their "talks in Kyiv and Tirana."
Macron emphasized that Putin will have to agree to the 30-day ceasefire proposed by Trump.
"Tomorrow, President Putin must show he wants peace by accepting the 30-day unconditional ceasefire proposed by President Trump and backed by Ukraine and Europe," wrote the French president.
Negotiations ahead of Trump’s call with Putin
A few hours ago, Reuters also reported that Starmer held talks with the leaders of the US, Italy, France, and Germany regarding the war in Ukraine. In particular, the parties discussed the necessity of an unconditional ceasefire.
The conversation covered the use of sanctions if Russia does not take the ceasefire and peace negotiations seriously.
These talks took place ahead of Trump’s call with Putin, scheduled for today, Monday, May 19.
