Macron breaks silence on Marine Le Pen's conviction

French President Emmanuel Macron has commented for the first time on the verdict against National Assembly lawmaker Marine Le Pen, who was tried in a case concerning the embezzlement of European Parliament funds, according to BFM TV.
According to French government spokeswoman Sophie Primas, Macron "reiterated three things":
-
That the judiciary is independent;
-
That threats against judges are absolutely unacceptable;
-
That everyone has the right to equal justice and that the law is the same for all.
Le Pen found guilty in embezzlement case
Recently, Le Pen, along with eight members of the European Parliament, was found guilty of embezzling European Union (EU) funds. According to the court's ruling:
-
Le Pen has been sentenced to four years in prison, two of which are suspended, while the remaining two will be served under house arrest.
-
She has also been fined $108,000 and banned from participating in elections for five years.
