Self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko believes that ending the war in Ukraine largely depends on the position of US President Donald Trump and Washington as a whole, according to his interview with Newsmax.

According to Lukashenko, the key factor is the consistency of Trump’s position. He said that decisive action by the United States could lead to results, while downplaying the role of European countries in the process.

He argued that much now depends on Trump and the United States, stressing that it is important for Trump not to retreat from his stance. Lukashenko described Trump as a strong-willed and sometimes impulsive figure and said that if he continues to push forward persistently, a result will follow, adding that Europeans, in his view, have no reason to make noise in this matter.

Answering a question about ways to achieve peace between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia, the self-proclaimed Belarusian leader claimed that the current situation itself is supposedly pushing the sides toward a peaceful settlement.

He also said that further escalation would be disadvantageous for Russia, as it would lead to the involvement of even more people in the war. In this context, Lukashenko stated that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy understands, and must understand, that the conflict could otherwise end with Ukraine ceasing to exist.

Lukashenko added that any war eventually ends in peace and that the sooner this happens, the fewer people will be killed.

Separately, he claimed that pressure in the peace process from the United States is aimed primarily at the Ukrainian president, while European leaders, in his view, lack sufficient resources to support Ukraine without Washington’s involvement.

Lukashenko has repeatedly said that he believes the war could end in the near future and that Ukraine will ultimately agree to the peace plan proposed by the United States.

Earlier, representatives of Trump’s team said that Lukashenko allegedly gives the US "good advice" on ending the war in Ukraine, which is why the White House listens to him. More recently, Lukashenko also offered unsolicited advice to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding a peace plan to end the war launched by Russia.
