Lukashenko gears up for Belarus presidential elections, threatening to hold onto power
Leader of the Belarusian regime, Alexander Lukashenko, announced his intention to run for the Belarus presidency again. At the same time, he hinted that he has no intention of sharing power.
"I will, I will, I will. Let them know (the Belarusian opposition - ed.) that I will run! And the more difficult the situation, the more they try to pressure you, me, and society, the sooner I will go to these elections. Don't worry, we will do what is necessary for Belarus," he said.
The self-proclaimed president of Belarus stated that "trembling hands do not hold power," threatening to share power.
"And no one will give away or give up power. But it must be based on the people's trust in this power. I believe that today the majority of people trust the authorities. Although they criticize. It's normal," Lukashenko said.
It should be noted that this will be Lukashenko's seventh electoral campaign. Although the latest election results, where he supposedly won, are not recognized worldwide.
Today in Belarus, for the first time since the mass protests of 2020, "elections" for parliament and local councils are being held, but they are taking place without international observers.
Belarus helps Russia in the war
From the first days of the full-scale invasion, Belarus has been helping Russia in the war against Ukraine, including hosting Russian equipment and troops on its territory.
Belarus has also organized so-called "training" with Russia, which have been ongoing since April 29, 2022. Therefore, Ukrainian forces continue to strengthen border security.
