Low blood sugar: Symptoms that are deadly if ignored

Low blood sugar, or hypoglycemia, is a condition where glucose levels fall below 3.9 mmol/L. This can happen in people with diabetes who take insulin or certain glucose-lowering drugs, as well as in healthy people due to irregular diet or excessive exercise.
Symptoms of hypoglycemia
The first signs of low blood sugar can be subtle, but if you don't pay attention, the condition can worsen.
The main symptoms:
- Trembling, sweating, weakness
- Dizziness, headache
- Heart palpitations
- Sudden mood changes, irritability
- Feeling of hunger
- Confusion, difficulty in concentration
Why hypoglycemia is dangerous
If your glucose level continues to drop, serious consequences can occur:
- Loss of consciousness
- Seizures
- Brain damage in case of prolonged glucose deficiency
What to do in case of hypoglycemia
If you experience symptoms, you should immediately raise your blood sugar level:
- Drink a sweet drink or eat 10-15 g of fast carbohydrates (for example, 3-4 pieces of sugar, 1 tablespoon of honey, or 150 ml of fruit juice).
- After 10-15 minutes, check the condition and, if necessary, repeat the intake of carbohydrates.
- If the symptoms persist or the condition worsens, consult a doctor immediately.
To avoid hypoglycemia, it is important to eat regularly, not skip meals, and monitor blood sugar levels, especially for people with diabetes.
