Lithuania speaks out on OSCE scandal:'Dancing to a fiddle played by Russians'
Lithuania's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabrielius Landsbergis, expressed concern about the future of the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe). He claims that this organization risks becoming powerless due to the actions of the United States and Europe in matters of leadership and the choice of the presiding country, according to Bloomberg.
Landsbergis noted that the OSCE nominated Malta as the presiding country as a compromise after the conflict caused by Russia and Belarus opposing Estonia.
"We're dancing to a fiddle that's being played by Russians, and I don't agree with that. If there is an organization that could be called actually brain dead, we will very much have a chance to see the OSCE becoming this," emphasized the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.
Boycott of the OSCE meeting
Recall that Bulgaria decided to open its airspace for the aircraft of the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to attend the OSCE meeting in Skopje, North Macedonia. In addition to Lavrov, the Russian delegation will include the spokeswoman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, referred to as the "mouthpiece of Kremlin propaganda."
The spokesperson for the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oleh Nikolenko, stated that Ukraine would boycott the meeting in North Macedonia because Russia abuses the OSCE platform.
The foreign ministers of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia announced their decision not to participate in the OSCE meeting because the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov, would attend.
However, the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, will attend the OSCE meeting. He explained this decision by stating that someone at the meeting must oppose Russia. The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, also announced his participation in the meeting.
