Light returns: Energy workers restore power for 80,000 Ukrainian families in a week
From July 17 to July 23, energy workers of the largest commercial energy operator in Ukraine, DTEK, restored power to 80,000 families in 106 settlements in the Odesa, Donetsk, and Dnipropetrovsk regions, which were left without electricity due to enemy shelling, according to DTEK's announcement.
"Last week, the enemy concentrated aerial attacks on the Odesa region. In total, 4,700 families in the Odesa region were left without power during the week. In a single attack on Odesa's historical center on July 22-23, the enemy cut off electricity to 1,000 customers. DTEK Odesa Electric Grid energy workers, with permission from the State Emergency Service and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, swiftly restored power to all residents of the region," the statement said.
The company added that there is still high intensity of shelling in Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions. However, the company's energy workers managed to restore power to 69,000 families in Donetsk and 6,200 families in Dnipropetrovsk, despite the destruction of power grids due to attacks.
"For over 500 days, our energy workers have been restoring power daily despite shelling in difficult and dangerous conditions. Since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, we have restored electricity supply to 8.3 million families, some of them dozens of times due to regular shelling. Our top priority is to provide Ukrainians with electricity as much as possible, despite the increased risks," said Oleksandr Fomenko, CEO of DTEK Grids.
Earlier, it was reported that in June, DTEK energy workers restored power for 277,000 families who were left without electricity due to attacks in the Kyiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, and Odesa regions.
