A charity initiative in Latvia raised funds to purchase 100 FPV drones for the Ukrainian military. The drones have already been handed over to Ukraine, according to the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia.

According to the embassy, the funds for the purchase of Latvian-made drones were raised, in particular, during a charity initiative by Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže, who ran the Riga Half Marathon in May 2024, calling on society to donate to drones for Ukrainian soldiers.

“The project is being implemented in cooperation with the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia and the Latvian charity foundation Ziedot.lv and has so far raised about 130,000 euros,” the diplomatic mission said.

One hundred drones will be handed over to two Ukrainian military units - the 21st Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Police of Ukraine's Liut (Rage in English - ed.) brigade - under the coordination of the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia.

Ukraine's Ambassador to Latvia Anatolii Kutsevol emphasized that drones have been enabling Ukrainian defenders to destroy Russian armored vehicles and tanks since the first months of the war.

“The purchase of one such drone can destroy millions of dollars worth of Russian military equipment. Thus, we will help Ukrainian defenders to inflict damage to the manpower and equipment of the Russian occupiers, while supporting the Latvian economy and local drone manufacturers,” he added.

Ukraine has dramatically increased drone production since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion.

In particular, as of December 17 last year, 1.3 million drones have been delivered to Ukrainian defenders since the beginning of 2024.
