Laser comb or darsonval: Trichologist reveals what stimulates hair growth
It has become quite popular to use a laser comb or personal device to stimulate hair growth. However, one device lacks proven effectiveness.
RBC-Ukraine reports on all the pros and cons of the devices and explains which one is effective.
What we know about darsonval
According to trichologist Ulyana Erstenyuk, darsonval is very popular, but from the proven beneficial properties, only its impact on seboregulation and antibacterial properties can be noted.
However, the device does not stimulate hair growth or reduce hair loss. This is because the microcurrents it produces do not penetrate deep enough to reach the hair follicle.
The hair attachment is made in the form of a comb, while attachments for the face and body can have a mushroom-shaped, petal-shaped, or drop-shaped design.
As for the direct therapeutic effect, the device transmits high-frequency impulse currents to the electrode. Then, the electrode attachment is gradually pressed to different areas of the body. The impact of impulse currents on the skin's surface layers stimulates blood circulation, tissue nourishment, and cellular regeneration.
Moreover, such a device is often used:
- for patient rehabilitation;
- for treating muscle and back pain;
- for treating neuralgia and neuritis;
- for treating hernias;
- for treating varicose veins;
- in case of sleep disorders.
However, it is important to note that this device has nothing to do with evidence-based and traditional medicine.
Effectiveness of laser comb
The doctor mentioned that numerous clinical studies have long proven the positive impact of laser and red light on hair follicles.
It plays a particularly positive role in the comprehensive treatment of androgenetic alopecia in men and women and after hair transplantation.
"Thanks to the red light wavelength of 655 nanometers, the laser works at the level of the hair follicle. It stimulates hair growth, improves its quality, has an anti-inflammatory effect, and increases hair density. It is also FDA-approved (US Food and Drug Administration - ed.), confirming its effectiveness and safety," the report states.
