Kyiv hit by one of largest Russian attacks yet - Over dozen direct strikes, Ukraine's Air Force says

The night of July 21 became one of the toughest for Kyiv in recent times. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, more than 15 direct hits were recorded, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing Yurii Ihnat, Head of the Communications Department of the Ukrainian Air Force Command.
Russia launched a massive combined attack on Ukrainian territory, including on the capital.
As Ignat reported, Kyiv sustained over a dozen and a half direct strikes on various targets.
In addition, the city suffered serious destruction in areas where intercepted aerial targets fell.
"The night was extremely difficult not only for the Ivano-Frankivsk region; it was also loud in Kyiv - unfortunately, we have more than 15 hits. The night was not quiet in Kyiv either. Kharkiv and other regions were also attacked," Ihnat said.
According to the Ukrainian military, Russian troops targeted not only the rear but also actively struck the front line using kamikaze drones.
"Even yesterday's report - 57 drones, with 18 shot down and 7 suppressed - shows that the attacks were aimed at the front line, where interception is extremely difficult," Ihnat noted.
Russia used multiple types of weapons, including cruise and aeroballistic missiles, but they did not reach their targets.
"Both cruise and aeroballistic missiles were either suppressed or shot down by air defense firepower," the Ukrainian military added.
Attack on Ukraine
On the night of July 21, Russia carried out a massive aerial assault on Ukraine, using 426 drones and 24 missiles. Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed or suppressed 224 aerial targets.
The strike hit multiple regions - Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Ivano-Frankivsk came under attack. In the capital, a series of explosions occurred throughout the night with breaks of several hours in between.
At least six districts in Kyiv suffered from fires and destruction. Targets hit included residential buildings, a kindergarten, a supermarket, warehouses, and a cottage complex.
In the Kyiv region, according to the State Emergency Service (SES), the strike caused a large fire: flames engulfed a 300-square-meter administrative building and a 1,200-square-meter warehouse in Fastiv district.
