Kursk breakthrough may not be the only surprise for Russians - expert
It is possible that the breakthrough by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region is not the only "surprise" for the occupiers. However, in planning such operations, the availability of the necessary resources is a decisive factor, according to the former spokesperson of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Vladyslav Seleznov, in a comment to RBC-Ukraine for the article "Vulnerable spot: How Kursk operation affected frontline and risks for Ukrainian army."
Seleznov has no illusions about potential new offensive actions. He explained that resources are needed for this.
He also said that, according to some reports, the number of Ukrainian troops involved in such operations reaches a maximum of 10,000 to 12,000.
"I don't think we should expect a march on Moscow. I think even Kursk is not in danger. But the maintenance of the buffer zone is obvious," the expert said.
Earlier, in a comment to RBC-Ukraine, military expert and head of the Center for Military-Legal Research Oleksandr Musiienko drew attention to a part of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's interview with NBC News, where Zelenskyy said that he did not want to reveal all the details of future UAF operations.
"The effect of surprise is success," the head of state said at the time.
Musiienko said that additional actions might still be planned.
"This is very interesting. Perhaps additional actions are planned, and we will see them," he added.
At the same time, Seleznov does not rule out that the breakthrough in the Kursk region might not be the only surprise prepared for the occupiers.
"But, of course, we will find out about it after the fact. Although I am still convinced that the resource factor is the key. Commander-in-Chief Oleksander Syrskyi may have plans of any level of grandiosity. But without the necessary resources, everything will remain at the level of expectations," he believes.
Kursk operation
Seleznov says that in the near future, the enemy will try to launch an offensive in the Kursk direction. Recall that the UAF operation has been ongoing since August 6, and during this time, Ukrainian forces have managed to take control of a large number of Russian settlements. However, Russian troops will likely still try to retake them.
Meanwhile, the Institute for the Study of War believes that the UAF's incursion into the Kursk region has affected the entire theater of military operations.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Kursk operation showed the whole world that Russia could lose the war.
