Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs admits possibility of Patriot system delivery from US
The United States of America probably has a spare Patriot air defense missile system that could be supplied to Ukraine, said the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba in an interview with The Guardian.
As reported by The Guardian, Greece and Spain are currently considering the possibility of supplying Patriot surface-to-air missile systems. Specifically, Poland and Romania have such systems. According to Kuleba, the eighth system could potentially be supplied to Ukraine from the United States.
“I think the US army probably has one spare,” the Minister said.
Kuleba also noted that negotiations regarding the Patriot system were complicated because partners were bargaining over compensation.
“I’m in no doubt, given the progress we are making, that Patriots will arrive and Germany must be commended for making the first move,” he noted.
Air Defense of Ukraine
The strengthening of Ukraine's air defense has become urgent amid the Russian Federation's massive spring strikes on the country's energy sector. In particular, air defense was discussed during a recent meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council.
As President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said earlier, Ukraine needs only 25 Patriot systems to protect the country from Russian shelling.
