Kremlin threatens with response on Ukraine's ATACMS strike on Taganrog
Russia will definitely respond to Ukraine's recent use of American-made ATACMS missiles to strike Russian territory. Moscow believes that the attack on Taganrog was carried out with ATACMS missiles, Reuters reports, citing Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Russia claimed that Ukraine struck a military airfield in the Sea of Azov with six American-made ATACMS ballistic missiles. As Reuters notes, this move could prompt Moscow to launch another experimental intermediate-range hypersonic missile at Ukraine.
The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the "attack by Western long-range weapons will not go unanswered and appropriate measures will be taken." It is still unclear how Russia will respond exactly.
"I would like to recall the absolutely unambiguous and direct statement of the defense ministry of the Russian Federation made yesterday, where it was clearly stated that a response would follow," Dmitry Peskov said.
According to Kremlin spokesman, "the response will follow in a manner deemed appropriate, but it will definitely follow."
Earlier, on November 21, Russia launched a new hypersonic intermediate-range ballistic missile, known as "Oreshnik," at Ukraine. According to Vladimir Putin, this was a direct response to Ukrainian strikes on Russia using American and British missiles.
Furthermore, Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh stated that Russia may launch another hypersonic ballistic missile at Ukraine in the coming days. Still, Washington does not believe that the Oreshnik missile will change the war's course.
