The US will make a mistake if it considers recognizing Crimea as Russian, and the European Union will never take such a step, as stated by EU foreign affairs chief, Kaja Kallas, according to Barron's.

She noted that considering the recognition of Crimea's annexation would be a mistake in any agreement.

"Then Russia clearly gets what they want," she said.

The EU foreign policy chief assured that the bloc would never recognize Russia's control over the temporarily occupied Crimea.

"Crimea is Ukraine," Kallas said. "It means a lot for the ones who are occupied that others don't recognise this as Russian."

Rumors about US initiative

On April 22, the Washington Post reported that tomorrow, the US will present its proposals for a peace agreement between Kyiv and Moscow during negotiations with Ukraine, Britain, and France in London.

These proposals may include the recognition of Crimea as Russian, while Washington would suggest lifting anti-Russian sanctions.

At the same time, Russia would need to halt all military actions, effectively freezing the war.

No official confirmation of these rumors has been provided yet.

Additionally, this week, US special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Vitkoff, is expected to visit Moscow for talks with Vladimir Putin.
