Explosions were heard in Kyiv on the night of May 4. The city’s air defense systems are in operation due to the Russian strike drones, according to the Kyiv City Military Administration.

"The air defense forces are working to eliminate the threat in the sky over Kyiv," the administration’s statement reads.

Kyiv residents are urged to stay in shelters until the air raid alert is lifted and to follow safety measures.

At the same time, explosions were heard in the Kyiv area.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko and Kyiv City Military Administration head Tymur Tkachenko also spoke about the air defense operations in the capital.

The Kyiv Mayor added that kamikaze drones have been detected over the Obolon district during the night, entering the capital's airspace.

Additionally, the Air Force had previously warned about the movement of the Russian strike UAVs, particularly towards Kyiv.#

"Air defense units continue to work on Russian targets in the airspace over the capital. Strike drones are being detected in various parts of the city. We urge everyone not to ignore the threat and stay in shelters!” - reads the statement from the Kyiv City Military Administration at 00:36 AM Kyiv time.

Debris falling in Kyiv, fires reported

At 00:43 AM Kyiv time, Kyiv City Military Administration head Tymur Tkachenko reported that debris had been detected falling in the Obolon district of the capital.

The details are being clarified, he added.

However, soon after, he confirmed that the debris from the Russian UAVs had also been detected in the Shevchenkivskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts of Kyiv.

Tkachenko also stated that information regarding casualties and damage is being determined.

"In the Obolon district, a car caught fire due to falling debris," the Kyiv City Military Administration head said.

He later added that a fire had broken out on the upper floors of a residential building in Kyiv amid the drone attack.

"In the Sviatoshynskyi district, as a result of falling UAV debris, a fire broke out in three private houses," Tkachenko also reported.

Later, the official added that in the Obolon district, "at another location, seven cars are on fire."

Russian drone attack

On the evening of May 3, several groups of kamikaze drones were launched by the Russians for another airstrike. Air raid alerts were declared in several Ukrainian regions due to the threat of Shahed drone strikes.

Late in the evening and around midnight, several explosions were heard in Cherkasy amid the drone attack. The head of the regional military administration reported on the air defense operations.
