Kakhovka Dam experimental project approved
Ukraine will reconstruct the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station, which was destroyed by Russian occupiers. The experimental project has received approval from the government, according to a statement of Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a government meeting.
"Today, the government approves a resolution for an experimental project to begin the reconstruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station, which was destroyed by Russian forces. The project is planned for a two-year duration. In the first stage, all engineering structures will be designed, and the necessary groundwork for restoration will be prepared," stated Shmyhal.
The second stage will commence after the territories where the power station is located are de-occupied, and it will involve actual construction works.
"The Ministry of Economy will coordinate the project, and the state-owned 'Ukrhydroenergo' (largest hydropower generating company in Ukraine - Ed.) will be the project's client. The decision to proceed with the restoration was made following consultations with experts and specialists," the Prime Minister added.
According to Shmyhal, the reconstruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station will greatly enhance Ukraine's economic potential in both the agricultural and energy sectors.
The explosion of the Kakhovka Dam
Russian occupiers detonated the dam of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station overnight on June 6. Subsequently, parts of the territories in Kherson, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions were flooded.
Earlier, experts emphasized that rebuilding the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station after this terrorist act would be impossible.
