Johnny Depp transforms into a grim Scrooge in new Christmas fantasy trailer
A still from the movie "Ebenezer"
Paramount Pictures has unveiled a new trailer for "Ebenezer," starring Johnny Depp in the lead role. The film is the latest adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic "A Christmas Carol."
Johnny Depp as Scrooge
In the new trailer, Johnny Depp appears as a gloomy and lonely Ebenezer Scrooge.
On Christmas Eve, he is visited by the ghost of his deceased business partner, Jacob Marley, who warns him about a trial that lies ahead.
Scrooge is later visited by three spirits. They take him through the past, present, and future, forcing him to confront his mistakes and decide whether he is ready to change his life.
The film was directed by Ti West, known for "X," "Pearl," and "MaXXXine."
Judging by the trailer, his take on the classic Christmas story will have a darker atmosphere, with elements of gothic fantasy.
Alongside Johnny Depp, the cast includes Ian McKellen, Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Tremell Tillman, Sam Claflin, and Daisy Ridley. McKellen plays Jacob Marley, while Grint portrays Bob Cratchit.
Depp's return to major Hollywood
"Ebenezer" will mark Johnny Depp's first major role in a Hollywood studio film since "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald," released in 2018.
During that time, the actor starred in the French historical drama "Jeanne du Barry" and directed the biographical film "Modì, Three Days on the Wing of Madness."
