About Kiss of the Spider Woman
The musical Kiss of the Spider Woman transports viewers to the realities of an Argentine prison during the 1980s "Dirty War."
Its main character, Luis Molina (actor Tonatiuh), is imprisoned for alleged relationships with a man.
To escape the brutality of prison, he creates imaginary film scenes in his mind featuring his favorite actress, Ingrid Luna (Jennifer Lopez).
In one fantasy, Luna appears as the mysterious Spider Woman, who kills her victims with a kiss.
Everything changes when Valentin Arregui Paz, a political prisoner who opposed the dictatorship, is placed in Molina's cell. Despite their different worlds, a special connection begins to form between them.
The film is directed by Bill Condon, known for musicals like Chicago, The Greatest Showman, and the Beauty and the Beast remake.
The story is based on the 1992 Broadway hit by Terrence McNally, John Kander, and Fred Ebb, based on Manuel Puig's 1976 novel.
Lopez was one of the first actresses to join the project. In addition to starring in the lead role, she is also a co-producer alongside Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
Filming took place in Uruguay and New Jersey. Lopez admitted that working on the film was "both exciting and exhausting at the same time."
In the movie, she appears in two contrasting personas: as the silver-screen diva of the Golden Age, Ingrid Luna—elegant in 1920s-style costumes and gowns—and as the fatal Spider Woman, whose deadly kiss becomes a symbol of escape from reality for Molina.
