US President Donald Trump wants an end to the Russian war against Ukraine and a return to trade with the Russians, states US Vice President JD Vance at a rally in North Carolina.

"So, there's been a lot of debate about what exactly our foreign policy should be with regards to Russia and Ukraine. The president of the United States has been very clear. He wants the killing to stop. He wants to get back to commerce. He wants to stop the innocent people who are losing their lives in that conflict. I happen to admire that. Of course, I think it's... I'm biased, but I think that's the right idea," Vance said.

He also accused former North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, who advocates for unconditional aid to Ukraine, of insanity.

"You hear the passion in his voice when he talks about sending hundreds of billions of dollars to the war in Ukraine. And yet, the one Ukrainian Roy Cooper didn't care about was this innocent girl, Iryna," he added. (referring to Iryna Zarutska, who was killed in North Carolina - ed.)

Russia offers the US an economic deal

As The Economist wrote, during preparations for last year's summit in Alaska, the Russian side proposed a so-called grand deal worth $12 trillion to the US.

In exchange for easing Washington's sanctions, Moscow offered joint projects in energy (Arctic oil and gas), extraction of rare earth metals, construction of data centers powered by nuclear energy, and a massive tunnel project under the Bering Strait.

However, according to analysts at The Economist, this proposal was more of an information trap than a real economic benefit.
