Japan announces additional equipment supply for Ukrainian army
Japanese Defense Minister Nakatani Gen has promised Ukraine additional supplies of vehicles. He said this during a conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Rustem Umerov, NHK reports.
“The Japanese minister expressed his country's willingness to continue supporting Ukraine and outlined a plan for an additional supply of Self-Defense Force vehicles,” the statement says.
In addition, Nakatani condemned China and North Korea's military cooperation with Russia, calling it a factor that contributes to the prolongation of the war and the deterioration of the situation in Ukraine.
The specific types of equipment to be transferred were not specified. Earlier, Tokyo handed over about 100 vehicles to Kyiv, including military trucks.
Japan's assistance to Ukraine
Japan has been providing significant support to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion in 2022, through both direct financial assistance and international organizations.
Tokyo has allocated more than $4.5 billion in grants and loans, becoming the fourth largest donor of budgetary support to Ukraine.
In addition, Japan assists such institutions as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.
In June, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida signed a security guarantee agreement.
