Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni calls on the European Union to clearly identify the negotiators on Ukraine in order to avoid chaos, according to Bloomberg.
In a letter to European Council President António Costa, Meloni emphasizes that the current approach, which involves many different formats and representatives, undermines trust in the EU.
She calls for this issue to be discussed at the informal summit in Dublin, with a final decision to be made during the leaders' meeting in December.
"I am convinced that we all realize how, by projecting the image of Europe acting in an uncoordinated manner, we are simply playing into the hands of those who want this war to continue," she writes.
Over the past few weeks, security advisers from France, Germany, and the United Kingdom have participated in meetings with US and Ukrainian officials and held talks in Oslo and Brussels.
In addition, the President of Finland and the Prime Minister of Norway held a telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin.
According to Meloni, such duplicative initiatives do not help stop the aggression, so the bloc must decide once and for all who exactly, and with what mandate, will represent the EU at the negotiating table.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced his intention to hold talks with Vladimir Putin on ending the war against Ukraine following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Earlier reports had suggested the possibility of the first in-person meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin since 2019 in Türkiye, with the US also planning to join the talks.
