Italian PM to visit US to negotiate lower tariffs: Details revealed

Next week, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will meet with White House Chief of Staff Donald Trump to discuss mutual duties between the United States and the European Union (EU), according to Roma.
According to the publication, the meeting will take place on April 16.
It is noted that the European proposal may be to return to zero tariffs, which is probably unacceptable to Washington today. The specific goal of the EU is to “tear out half”, that is, to set mutual duties at 10%.
Meloni, in turn, will meet with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen before his trip to the United States. They will also hold talks after the Italian prime minister's dialogue with Trump.
US trade war
In early April, US President Trump introduced large-scale tariffs on imported goods. The US tariff program also affected Ukraine, which was subject to a 10% basic duty. The Ukrainian government emphasized that the scenario is difficult, but not critical. The EU and China, in turn, immediately threatened the United States with countermeasures.
Today, on April 7, Trump began demanding “reparations for past years” from Europe.
