Israeli soldiers from the Yahalom unit and the 99th Division have destroyed an underground Hamas weapons production facility in the central part of the Gaza Strip. Additionally, Israeli forces killed a group of terrorists in southern Gaza, reports the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Soldiers from the unit, acting on precise intelligence, discovered and destroyed an underground tunnel route that housed a Hamas weapons production facility during operations in the central Gaza Strip.

The facility contained military equipment, several lathes, and various processing and cutting machines, which were used, among other things, for weapons manufacturing.

The military also uncovered underground tunnels with blast-resistant doors and storage rooms utilized by Hamas terrorists.

"The division's engineering forces, the 551st brigade, and the Yahalom Unit seized the findings, mapped the site, and dismantled it. The destruction of the manufacturing site deals another blow to Hamas' efforts to rebuild its capabilities," the statement reads.

Elimination of a terrorist group

On the night of Saturday, January 4th, the IDF carried out a precise strike based on intelligence against armed Hamas terrorists in the Salah al-Din area in the southern Gaza Strip.

It was noted that all the terrorists targeted in the strike were involved in terrorist activities, including the use of humanitarian aid corridors.

The strike was carried out at a distance from the movement of humanitarian aid trucks and did not affect the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.

Earlier on Saturday, the IDF also conducted a precise and intelligence-based strike on four armed Hamas terrorists traveling in a vehicle in Deir al Balah in the central Gaza Strip.

Israel-Hamas war

After the Palestinian militants' invasion on October 7, 2023, the Israeli military continued its operation in the Gaza Strip against Hamas terrorists.

On the night of December 31st to January 1st, terrorists launched missiles into Israeli territory.

On January 2nd, Israeli aviation carried out an airstrike on the city of Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip. As a result of the strike, the head of Hamas' internal security forces was killed.

The Israeli government has threatened powerful strikes on the Gaza Strip if Hamas does not release the Israeli hostages captured on October 7, 2023.

On January 3rd, peace negotiations between Israel and Hamas resumed in Qatar.
