Israel warns France about threat of terrorist attacks during Olympics - Le Figaro
Israel has warned France about potential terrorist attacks against members of the Israeli delegation and Israeli tourists during the Paris Olympics, according to Le Figaro.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz sent a letter to his French counterpart, Stéphane Séjourné, stating that some individuals aim to disrupt the festive nature of this joyful event (the Paris Olympics). A copy of the letter has been shared with several media outlets.
"We currently have assessments regarding the potential threat posed by Iranian terrorist proxies and other terrorist organisations who aim to carry out attacks against members of the Israeli delegation and Israeli tourists during the Olympics," Katz wrote.
IOC faced demands to exclude Israel from the competitions
Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday rejected Palestine's call to bar Israel from the Paris Games due to the conflict in Gaza. The Palestinian Olympic Committee had requested a ban on Israel in a letter to the IOC, citing the bombings in Gaza as a violation of the Olympic truce.
The 2024 Summer Olympics in France are set to begin today, July 26. Athletes will face a packed schedule of events over the next two weeks, and fans will be able to follow the action live.
In light of the complex geopolitical situation, organizers are implementing heightened security measures. Special attention will be given to the opening ceremony, which will be held outside the stadium for the first time in history.
