The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out massive strikes on fuel facilities in Tehran on Saturday, March 7, according to CNN.
The outlet reports that the attack targeted oil depots supplying fuel to both civilian consumers and military formations in Iran.
Objectives of the operation
"This is a significant strike that constitutes an additional step in deepening the damage to the military infrastructure of the Iranian terrorist regime," the IDF said in a statement.
Israeli military officials emphasized that the strikes are aimed at strategically important facilities that support the activities of Iran’s armed forces.
Consequences of the attacks
Video from Reuters shows flames and smoke rising from the Shahran oil refinery in Tehran.
The footage demonstrates the scale of the destruction and the IDF's efforts to weaken Iran’s ability to supply its military facilities with fuel.
Position of the IDF leadership
Earlier, IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir said that Israel is moving to the next stage of the operation, but specific steps have not been disclosed.
In a video statement, he said: "In this phase, we will further dismantle the regime and its military capabilities. We have additional surprises ahead which I do not intend to disclose."
We remind that Israel is launching the second phase of the war with Iran, focusing its airstrikes on underground facilities in Tehran where the enemy's ballistic missiles are stored.
It should be noted that after a series of strikes by Hezbollah, speculation emerged that the Israel Defense Forces may have used the Iron Beam laser air defense system in combat conditions for the first time.
