Israel's attempt to eliminate Hamas commander in Gaza resulted in deaths of 90 Palestinians
According to Gaza's Ministry of Health, at least 90 people, including children, have been killed and another 300 wounded during Israel's operation targeting Hamas leader Muhammad Deif and his deputy Rafaa Salameh, reports AP.
Journalists from the agency counted over 40 bodies in the overcrowded Nasser hospital near the attack site.
According to Palestinian doctors, several injured individuals remain trapped under rubble and on the streets, inaccessible to emergency and civil defense crews.
Israeli military officials asserted that additional terrorists had hidden among civilians and described the location as surrounded by trees and a few buildings.
An Israeli official stated that the strike targeted a fenced area in Khan Yunis controlled by Hamas, clarifying it was not a tent but an operational complex. The official described the strike as precise.
On Saturday morning, an airstrike was launched in the southern Gaza Strip. According to Israeli military sources, the targets were Hamas military wing commander Muhammad Deif and another senior commander of the group.
The Times of Israel reported that both were hit by large munitions while in a building between the Al-Mawasi area and Khan Yunis in southern Gaza, not in a tunnel.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that he is not absolutely sure of the successful elimination of Deif.
He also mentioned that he approved the strike after ensuring there were no hostages in the area and receiving information about possible collateral damage and the munitions that would be utilized.
